Afternoon Delights: “BloodSpray: The Musical”

In honor of the birthday International Man Of Leisure Mike Vanderbilt, here is the short film he made with multiple folks for the 2016 Chicago 48 Hour Film Project. BLOODSPRAY: THE MUSICAL is “a rock and roll tale of a boy, a girl, and a satanic cult” and it is a hoot. A lo-fi combination of Ed Wood’s THE VIOLENT YEARS, John Waters’ MULTIPLE MANIACS, REEFER MADNESS: THE MUSICAL, STREETS OF FIRE, ROCK & RULE, with a wee bit of I DRINK YOUR BLOOD. That fun mashup of soda shoppe pop and satanic panic delivers an idiosyncratic short that is fun, unique, and impressive for how well it was made in just 48 hours. It was co-written and co-directed by Vanderbilt and Pat O’Sullivan.

The theme for that year’s Project was “musical.” BLOODSPRAY took home the award for Best Original Score (which was written by Vanderbilt and performed by him and his cohorts Sarah Brandt and O’Sullivan—under the nom de guerre “Mike Vanderbilt & The Suburban Garage Sound”). That can be found in full on SoundCloud and below and is a true collection of bops.

Be sure to follow Mike and wish a happy birthday to the Mayor Of Austin, Ambassador of Malört, Milk Scourge of Montreal, and Sausage King of Chicago!
