BBC Scotland Begins With Chvrches
Three years ago BBC Scotland came into existence. Yes, it’s a bit surprising that it took that long for Scotland to get its own BBC station, but I guess that’s the speed at which the UK government works. For its inaugural broadcast, BBC Scotland tapped Scottish band Chvrches to perform their song “Miracle” with the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra. It’s a thrilling performance that combines the already amazing synthy pop song with some stirring strings and percussion, all while using images of the people and places of Scotland.
The summary posted on YouTube reads:
A unique collaboration between Chvrches and the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra, the performance celebrates modern Scotland featuring living portraits of people and images from across the country.
The track builds both musically and visually to represent the constant evolution of Scotland’s society and cultural landscape. This new arrangement of Chvrches’ hit track Miracle was created by the band members Iain Cook, Martin Doherty and Lauren Mayberry with arranger and conductor Paul Campbell.
It’s a really great performance, the perfect way to kickoff any event, a gorgeous production, and something that deserves to be listened to at full volume. Enjoy “Miracle”—take it away, gang!
