Afternoon Delights: Bio-Cop Trailer
Astron-6 is a Canadian filmmaking collective that has made a bevy of short films, the great web series Divorced Dad, and films like FATHER’S DAY, MANBORG, THE EDITOR, and PG: PSYCHO GOREMAN. Each of the members (Adam Brooks, Jeremy Gillespie, Matt Kennedy, Conor Sweeney, Steven Kostanski) have worked on various projects solo or in pairs—Kostanski and Gillespie wrote THE VOID, which Kostanski directed; and Kostanski directed 2018’s LEPRECHAUN RETURNS.
They have put out a ton of content that is a great combination of retro and subversive, taking familiar tropes and forms while instilling them with hilariously weird tangents.
BIO-COP is a trailer for a fake film that was originally tied to MANBORG (and appears at the end of the DVD). It’s a great send-up of stuff like ROBOCOP and Cannon/Charles Band productions where a cop has some sort of special ability, though in this case it’s not so much of a gift.
It’s a great, goopy, absurd 5 minutes and 40 seconds that is a ton of fun. A variation of the Bio-Cop character appears in PG: PSYCHO GOREMAN (which is hitting Shudder U.S. on May 20th).
