Blake Rome’s Top 20 Films of 2021

Best of Year lists usually crowd around the end of December into the early spring months. But why not revisit them throughout the year? Especially when they are as well made as this one by Blake Rome?

We’ve showcased other best of videos before, like Jenny Nulf’s and others, that are crafted with such editing talent and filled with intriguing selections to make these presentations themselves dynamic pieces of media. Video editor Blake Rome (for whom I can’t find other social media besides the Vimeo channel) has compiled a list of films that are mix between familiarly praised titles and lesser known entries that certainly deserve a look (or another look if you saw them last year). Rome beautifully stitches these scenes together with pop songs and finds recurring visual motifs of connection and alienation that will send folks to add to their watchlist and investigate where to see some of these tremendous movies.

It’s an exquisite movie that hopefully reminds people to make their way to some of the titles that slipped through the cracks. Celebrating excellence shouldn’t just be a seasonal activity but instead a year-long event that asserts why we love the things we love.
