Brendan Tenold’s Cult Movie Reviews: ‘REPTILIAN’

There’s much more to the Kaiju world than dreamt of in your Godzillas, Gameras, and Kongs. Some of them are also exceptional. Some…are not. 1967’s YONGARY, MONSTER OF THE DEEP, a South Korean Kaiju film, isn’t particularly well-known. Its 1999 remake, YONGARRI, even less so. Perhaps that’s because it’s been marketed as REPTILIAN, a clear knock-off that was specifically made in the mold of GODZILLA (1998). Unfortunately, it’s shoddy CGI doesn’t help it too much—except perhaps add to its infamy.

But you don’t have to take my word for it! Youtuber, Kaiju expert, and openly Canadian person Brandon Tenold synopsizes the film while also providing context and comedic commentary. It’s a great look at a (possibly rightfully?) forgotten movie that is a fun romp that may entice folks to check out this slice of…something from 1999.
