Conan O’Brien Plays Horror Video Games

Oh how we dearly miss America’s Fair-Skinned, Freakishly Tall Clown Prince of Mirth, Conan O’Brien. He’s not dead, don’t worry. But since the end of his TBS show, O’Brien has mostly been found on his podcast network, uploading fun behind the scenes stuff to YouTube, and randomly jumping on stage while Stephen Colbert won an Emmy.

But in these, the spookiest of days, I miss the be-freckled funnyman and his skittishness attitude towards technology and horror genre. So let us revisit when those two boogeymen of O’Brien’s collided in a very special installment of “Clueless Gamer” back in 2013. Coached by the terrifically nerdy and incredibly patient Aaron Bleyaert—who was always a great foil/punching bag to O’Brien, because it allowed the Harvard geek to bully another indoor kid, thus establishing a fairly pathetic nerd hierarchy—the Man Who Would Write Monorail navigates three PC horror games: Slender: The Eight Pages, Amnesia: The Dark Descent, and Outlast.

Each game has its own share of…unfortunate decisions and thus provides plenty of comedic fodder for the two pasty dorks as they play them in darkness (hence the night vision which makes them look like what would happen if raccoons had been transformed into Office Max employees). It’s a fun segment and a nice combination of horror, comedy, and a maniacal doctor who refuses to wear pants.
