Exploring Stephen King’s Forgotten Miniseries

Ryan Hollinger is a great video essayist that does terrific work exploring various genre films. He has multiple videos devoted to Stephen King adaptations, but one of the best also highlights one of the lesser known King projects. Rose Red was a three episode miniseries that aired over three nights in January 2002. It featured Julian Sands, Nancy Travis, Jimmi Simpson, Kimberly Brown, Emily Deschanel, Kevin Tighe, and one creepy ass house with unnerving ghosts. Rose Red is a solid ghost story (that, predictably, gets a bit wobbly towards the end) and Hollinger finds much to discuss (to praise and critique) in his video essay that looks at its literary roots, influences, what worked, and ultimately how it slipped into greater obscurity.
