Lanky Kong Reacts to DK Rap

Since discovering his videos a few months ago, Joel Haver has greatly improved my days. The brilliantly bizarre filmmaker creates shorts in both live action and animated (usually through a form of rotoscoping/tracing around live footage) and they are incredibly inspired. Most are clearly born of some fairly mundane observation Haver has about video games, or genre tropes, or film cliches…but that is merely a launching point for work that goes into unexpected directions that are equally absurd and yet totally grounded in a real sense of humanity.

The characters are trapped in a weird world and have to conform to those rules, but they are aware of the protocols and find them baffling. This video, in which Lanky Kong (probably the most overlooked of the Donkey Kong krew?) reacts upon seeing the “DK Rap” for the first time, is a great blend of ‘reaction video’ dialogue and energy along with the bruised ego of a gaunt primate who is perpetually on the outside. Enjoy and be sure to check out the rest of his channel on YouTube and please support his Patreon if you are able.
