Nicolas Cage VS. The Hellscape That Is The Internet
Nicolas Cage is an immensely fascinating person. His devotion to his craft is unparalleled—Daniel Day Lewis basically immerses himself in method acting, but that’s his primary approach to roles, and it takes such a toll that he can’t make many films. Cage, on the other hand, has many arrows in his quiver for how he tackles each part that involves method acting, and pulling references from older works, and much more inventive ideas. Even when he’s in less-than-great material, Cage never phones it in and is routinely the highlight of any DTV or fluff movies because he finds intriguing ways to create a persona that doesn’t always been grandiose hamming it up as others like to suggest. On the eve of the release of his new film, THE UNBEARABLE WEIGHT OF MASSIVE GENIUS (which I saw at SXSW and reviewed for Daily Grindhouse), the former Coppola sits down with GQ for an entry in their ongoing “Actually Me” series.
GQ summarizes it thusly:
On this episode of Actually Me, Nicolas Cage goes undercover on the Internet and responds to real comments from fans on Twitter, Instagram, Quora, Wikipedia, Reddit, YouTube and TikTok. Does he know about the subreddit dedicated entirely to him? What happened after a young Nic Cage attempted to convince his uncle, Francis Ford Coppola, to give him a screen test? Were his abs in Ghost Rider real or CGI?
The answers…may surprise you.
