Old Time Hawkey - “Can’t Sleep Eh?” (Episode 1)

Oh Old Time Hawkey. The soothing-voiced Upper Michigander actually named Fritz and armed with a seemingly neverending source of recipes, two dogs (named Donnybrook and Kris Draper), and such a comforting aura about him that he’s like woodsy Xanax incarnate. The pastoral chef brings his outdoor cooking and calming presence from the land of TikTok to an ongoing YouTube series with Can’t Sleep, Eh?. And my god is it delightful.

Shot beautifully yet simply, the series seemingly features Old Time Hawkey talking about a theme while preparing a meal (presenting a recipe that people can follow at home), all done in his inimitably zen fashion that combines the rustic energy of a woddsman with the pastoral tranquility of something like cottagecore. It’s a tremendous balancing act and Hawkey not only continues it in this longer format, but somehow expands and even improves upon it!
