“Party Tonight” Music Video

This could purely be a matter of perception, but it seems like Regular Show is not as highly regarded as other animated programs of its time/ilk (Adventure Time, Gravity Falls, Gumball, Foster’s Home For Imaginary Friends, and so forth). J.G. Quintel’s show about a group of friends that work in a park (then a dome, then space) may not be as high profile, but it maintains a group of devoted fans who love how weird the stories get (usually going from zero-to-crazy in the span of the last act, or 5 minutes), all the sly pop culture references (remember when Childish Gambino rap battled Pops?), and just a perfectly maintained mood of friends just hanging out while occasionally dealing with cranky monsters with god-like powers and deep insecurities.

In the season one finale, “Mordecai And The Rigbys”, the main characters are in a band and want to impress folks with their music (and then their future selves show up, who are in fact jerks, and actually it’s very similar to that poolside scene in BILL & TED FACE THE MUSIC now that I type it out, but that’s a whole ‘nother thing).

The song they perform is “Party Tonight”.

You can listen to “Party Tonight” on Spotify, or the original recording (before Quintel performed it as the characters in the show) by storyboarder Sean Szeles. In 2012, when Regular Show’s Facebook page got its millionth “Like”, a live action music video was released. It’s unclear who the actors are (most likely just animators/writers/other crew on the show), but it’s fun to see this bizarre lo-fi interpretation of characters like Hi Five Ghost and Skips rocking out to this ‘80s FM jam with its inane lyrics and driving chords. So enjoy some people dressed like birds and raccoons and whatever the hell Muscle Man is (horrible victim of gout?) shaking their groove thangs to “Party Tonight”.
