Shaturday Morning Cartoons: Tales From The Cryptkeeper
Y’all know me: I love The Found Footage Festival.
Their video compilations are tremendous, their YouTube shows are delightful, they have a dope book, and they put on excellent live shows that you should check out when they come to your area. Joe Pickett and Nick Prueher do the Lord’s work non-stop and with the help of mainstays like VHS detective/alleged creep George Pasles, they continually put out outstanding entertainment that could otherwise be lost in time like…tears in the rain. We’ve featured their Shaturday Morning Cartoons show before when Picket, Prueher, and Pasles were joined by Caitlin McGurk for The Littles—which is still one of the unintentionally funniest bits of animation ever made.
Well we’re doing it again, but this time in proper Mocktoberfest mode as the usual trio of manchildren are joined by Laura Wimbels, comedian/actress/writer who is horror host Lenora for Cleveland’s The Big Bad B-Movie Show (which you can watch online here). With their powers combined they tackle an episode of Tales From The Cryptkeeper, the animated adaptation of the HBO anthology series that was adapting EC Comics from back in the day. Honestly, the cartoon kind of holds up; animation isn’t great and the plots are all telegraphed, but if you enjoy some sweet punnery, nice horror humor, and a splash of the macabre in your children’s animated content—Tales From The Cryptkeeper is pretty solid. The episode in question is the first half of episode four from season one—“Gone Fishin’.”
Watch the fearsome foursome take on this re-animated show with all of their fright as they provide their own commen-bury…all right I can’t sustain the pun game. The point is that it’s a delightful episode of Shaturday Morning Cartoons with some fun classic ads, nice tangents, and an enjoyable mini-game in the middle of it.
