The Curse Q&A With Christopher Nolan

The Curse, the Showtime series created by Nathan Fielder and Benny Safdie, is a dark anxiety fever dream that squarely takes on all sorts of industries in one fell swoop. Or, as the IMDB description reads:

A newlywed couple struggle to make their vision for eco-living a reality in a small New Mexico town.

After the airing of episode nine, there was an event where the first episode screened and then there was a question and answer session with Fielder and Safdie. But what makes it intriguing is that this Q&A was led by Safdie’s OPPENHEIMER director, Christopher Nolan. The trio don’t spoil much beyond the first episode—they especially don’t get into that finale—but the pair discuss their influences and inspirations behind the series, the various meta aspects to it, Emma Stone (of course), and the cognitive dissonance of caring about unsympathetic characters. It’s a pretty interesting insight into The Curse, the creative process, and it’s also nice to see that Nolan watches TV like a person.
