10 Best End Credit Rap Songs

While it was mostly the product of the mid-to-late ‘80s, the end credits rap song has popped up multiple times since then in glorious fashion. To clarify, this isn’t just some random rap song that plays over the end credits but a particular hip hop tune that also oddly covers the specifics of the plot, working them into the lyrics in a way that is highly particular while aiming to somehow also get broad pop appeal. (And sometimes that worked!)

Hopefully the recent resurgence in a few contemporary films will lead to even more of these lyrical synopses (that often have a New Jack Swing sound, for some reason). There are, of course, many more where these came from…but it’s my list and my opinion!

10. “Are You Ready For Freddy” by The Fat Boys, from NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET 4: THE DREAM MASTER (1988)

9. “On Our Own” by Bobby Brown, from GHOSTBUSTERS II (1989)

8. “The Monster Squad” by The Monster Squad, from THE MONSTER SQUAD (1987)

7. “PG For Short” by Blitz/Berlin, from PSYCHO GOREMAN (2020)

6. “City Of Crime” by Dan Aykroyd, Tom Hanks, Glen V. Hughes III, and Pat Thrall, from DRAGNET (1987)

5. “Lose Yourself” by Eminem, from 8 MILE (2002)

*Quick aside: If I ever get famous and appear on talk shows, this is the song I want played by the band as I enter onto the stage. For absolutely no reason, just because it’s weird and I know all the lyrics.
