Each week, Neon Splatter contributors offer up some viewing options found on streaming (U.S. unless otherwise noted). Movies, TV shows, specials, and more. New and old, from all sorts of genres and nations. Most importantly, we deem them worthy of your time.

Kiley Fox: The Jeffersons

What It Is: This television sitcom stars George Jefferson, who has become wealthy and successful in the dry-cleaning business. This affords him the opportunity to move into a ritzy high-rise in New York City. George is stingy, but means well, while his wife Louise (Weezy) is kind and generous. The show also features the Jefferson's wise-cracking maid, their interesting neighbors, and the building's officious doorman.

Where It Is: Amazon Prime

Why You Should Watch It: “That opening theme song will lift your heart with hope, and the show challenges a lot of ideas about class, race, and what it means to be a success.”

Rob Dean: SWEETHEART (2019)

What It Is: Jenn (Kiersey Clemons) has washed ashore a small tropical island and it doesn't take her long to realize she's completely alone. She must spend her days not only surviving the elements, but must also fend off the malevolent force that comes out each night.

Where It Is: Netflix

Why You Should Watch It: “Co-writer/Director J.D. Dillard deserves to be better known due to his brilliant storytelling with unique and refreshing approach to genre staples. Clemons is spectacular, creating incredible character depth with very little dialogue. SWEETHEART is a taut and brilliant twist survival horror that’s also fun and thrilling (and 82 minutes long).”

Khayla McGowan: Killing Eve

What It Is: Eve is a bored, whip-smart security services operative whose desk-bound job doesn't fulfill her fantasies of being a spy. Villanelle is a talented killer, who clings to the luxuries her violent job affords her. These two fierce women, equally obsessed with each other, will go head to head in an epic game of cat and mouse, toppling the typical spy-action thriller.

Where It Is: Hulu, AMC+ (offering a 7 Day free trial), Amazon (for rent)

Why You Should Watch It: “This show is a thrilling cat-and-mouse chase that gives a tense look at psychopathy and obsession while showing off stylish fashion, scenery, and kills. Three seasons have come out already. The fourth season premieres on BBC America and AMC+ on February 27 (premiering on AMC on February 28).”

Jeremy Lowe: VICIOUS FUN (2020)

What It Is: Joel, a caustic 1980s film critic for a national horror magazine, finds himself unwittingly trapped in a self-help group for serial killers. With no other choice, Joel attempts to blend in or risk becoming the next victim.

Where It Is: Shudder

Why You Should Watch It: “The idea of accidentally walking in on a support group for serial killers is brilliant. VICIOUS FUN comes off as quirky, but at the same time very topical. It seems like there is a support group out there for everything nowadays. Between the outstanding cast, and brilliant cinematography VICIOUS FUN is an action packed, gore filled, horror comedy that should not be missed.”

Shafi Malik: MASTER (2021)

What It Is: Master is an action film from India about a professor, JD, who is sent to teach at a juvenile reform school for three months. He clashes with an unscrupulous man, Bhavani, who controls the school's young inmates to cover up his own criminal activities.

Where It Is: Amazon Prime (Tamil), Amazon Prime (Malaylam), Amazon Prime (Telugu)

Why You Should Watch It: “Part ONLY THE STRONG, Part GOMORRA with a sprinkling of GREASED LIGHTNING, it stars Kollywood screen icon Vijay, who plays a professor tasked with teaching in a juvenile facility while clashing with a local gangster. Filled with great fights and greater songs, it's a guaranteed good time!”

Ashley Rappa: Alice In Borderlands

What It Is: Arisu is a man without much money or luck. He is unemployed currently as well. Out of the blue a blinding light engulfs him one day in whose aftermath the city of Tokyo has lost all its inhabitants save Arisu and two friends. This is a dangerous and potentially fatal game of survival now in which they are forced to take part.

Where It Is: Netflix

Why You Should Watch It: “If you watched Squid Game but need more ways to feel traumatized by dystopian survival games and solve puppet-string mysteries, then this show’s for you.”
