“More links here than a Zelda Convention…” - Erin B. Gaskill

  • Kicking it off with good news…The Venture Bros and Metalocalypse (and Aqua Teen Hunger Force) are getting movies!!!

    • First they’ll hit Blu-ray/DVD/VOD and eventually land at HBO Max. It would be nice for VB to wrap up with a season as they wanted, but I have faith that Jackson & Doc can make it work for a suitable hilarious, weird, and melancholic conclusion. Also, The Doomstar Requiem (which is amazing), ends on a cliffhanger so I’m excited for the finale of Metalocalypse too and hope it’s another rock opera.

Not to give short shrift to ATHF, but they already have a movie. And it has this amazing intro, with a song by Mastodon no less!

  • Gutter Garbs has a special NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET 3: DREAM WARRIORS t-shirt for limited time pre-order. It closes at 6pm ET on Sunday (May 16).

  • Shameless Self Promotion Time: Here’s my Bullz-Eye.com review for THE WOMAN IN THE WINDOW, debuting on Netflix this weekend. It has some good stuff, but mostly is a pretty rote Hitchcock homage.

  • Shameless Self Promotion Time, Part 2: Nerds In Paradise: Here is my review of SPIRAL, a.k.a SPIRAL: FROM THE BOOK OF SAW. I was…not a fan! But it seems like a lot of SAW fans dig it, so there ya go.

  • Speaking of SAW, over at Daily Grindhouse, Brett Gallman discusses the Giallo influences on that horror franchise.

  • The other great thing about SPIRAL opening this week (besides Brett’s piece)? When they let the hilarious Jigsaw Quotes account take over the official SPIRAL Twitter account. It led to this:

  • Keeping the horror train going, Zaki Hasan writes about “Middle Eastern Horrors and the Future of Creature Features” over at Shudder’s The Bite newsletter (coinciding with the release of THE DJINN).

  • Messed Up Puzzles is unveiling new jigsaw puzzles today for horror-inclined puzzle enthusiast in your life. They will be EVIL DEAD, Elvira, and MANDY related.

  • Paul Verhoeven is back as the trailer for BENEDETTA dropped While ELLE was both incredibly well done while stumbling along the line of insightful and insulting, BENEDETTA could be another beautiful exploration of hypocrisy, carnal needs, and personal growth.

  • As always, there are many crises going on around the world. Two of the more pressing ones are:

  • Colombia: The horrible president has not only sided with the ultra rich of his country against the rest of its citizens, but police and other forces are now acting under his orders to detain, assault, and kill protestors or others daring to fight back. It is a horrific situation that requires a lot more attention and assistance. This issue has been compounded by the fact that GoFundMe and some other organizations have been incredibly slow to release funds collected for the embattled population. To learn more about the events and how to help, I would suggest checking out Red Condor Collective.

  • Palestine: More needless and frankly cruel violence is being perpetrated upon Palestinians along the Gaza Strip and in a select few other places. It is a horrific campaign of terror and carnage that must be stopped. Please note—do not conflate criticism of Israel and its actions with criticism of Jewish people largely. Those are not the same and too often that cudgel has been used by U.S. Politicians. Here is where you can best help in this situation (via Alejandra Gonzalez):

  • Katy Perry released a new music video starring her and a bunch of Pokémon. So. That exists.

  • The trailer for VENOM: LET THERE BE CARNAGE was unleashed this week. But the best thing about it was prompting someone to re-post the part of Spider-Man: Turn Off The Dark where Carnage is introduced. So many people got hurt for that show…and for what? FOR WHAT?!?

  • Does TikTok have a lot of terrible stuff on it? Yes, of course. But does it also have videos like this glorious one where different users keep adding on and on to make it increasingly hysterical? Also yes.

  • THE FOREVER PURGE released its first trailer this week. No release date has been announced yet.

  • Let’s close this out with some fun bits of comedy. See you all next week!

Watch to the end. PLEASE.
