Park Chan-wook Breaks Down OLDBOY’s Hallway Fight

Yesterday was master filmmaker Park Chan-wook’s 60th birthday. The incredible artist happens to be one of my favorite directors of all time, creating unique works of depraved beauty unlike anything truly seen before. In addition to his own indelible approach, though, Park is like any artist, building his masterpieces with parts of his influences.

In this video for Vanity Fair, Park breaks down the hallway fight scene from OLDBOY. He discusses the choices made, how the art direction informs the sequence, what ideas he gleaned from other works, and more. It’s a fascinating look at a truly iconic cinematic moment.
