Ryan Hollinger on A CURE FOR WELLNESS

I love me some video essays, especially about films and ESPECIALLY if the essayists have a great style and deep knowledge of the medium. Luckily, Ryan Hollinger has all of these things as he dives into various horror films, tropes, sub-genres, and more.

Hollinger’s YouTube channel has over 300 videos covering a bunch of movies and video games, with the vast majority devoted to horror. His calming cadence, aided by his Irish lilt, along with a willingness to appreciate highlights even among movies full of painful lows produces entertaining essays that do a good job diving into the subject matters and branching into fun philosophical topics while still having fun. A CURE FOR WELLNESS is certainly a mixed bag that has lots of cool stuff drifting amongst tedium and contrivances and Hollinger’s discussion is incredibly engaging.
