SLUT (2014)
This week we’re highlighting short works from filmmakers that had movies at SXSW 2022.
Writer/Director Chloe Okuno had two titles at SXSW this year. She co-wrote the very entertaining paranoid powderkeg BODIES BODIES BODIES, which is a lot of fun and should be coming out this summer from A24. Okuno also co-wrote and directed the excellent WATCHER, which is a terrifically made film set for release at the beginning of June.
But way back in 2014, Okuno wrote and directed the short film SLUT. While running a bit under 21 minutes, the filmmaker’s talent is already on full display. The short (also known as S.L.U.T.) won the award for best student short at Screamfest 2014.
Blending genres like coming-of-age, drama, and horror, while doing great character work that makes the viewers invested in the story beyond some plot hook. Speaking of the plot, the summary is as follows:
A naive young girl becomes the target of a murderous sociopath when she attempts to reinvent herself to impress the boys in her small Texas town.
Enjoy SLUT, catch WATCHER and BODIES BODIES BODIES when they are released, and be sure to follow Chloe Okuno on Twitter.
