THERE’S SOMETHING IN MY ROOM (2013)
This week we’re highlighting short works from filmmakers that had movies at SXSW 2022.
Joseph and Vanessa Winter’s DEADSTREAM was THE highlight of SXSW 2022 for me. There were other great films that I also loved (EMERGENCY and WATCHER being the tops), but DEADSTREAM was brilliantly inventive yet simple film that revealed its audacious nature in flawless execution. Avoid reading much about it, just know that it is coming to Shudder later this year, it is best watched in a group/crowd setting, and that it is easily the spiritual successor to EVIL DEAD 2.
But the husband and wife filmmaking team have been creating movies and shorts for a while. You can see some of the shorts they’ve done for various festivals over the years on their YouTube channel. Here’s one made for the "It's Only a Movie" 2013 Short Horror Film Festival simply titled THERE’S SOMETHING IN MY ROOM. Written & directed by Joseph and produced by Vanessa, the plot summary is as follows:
Alice can't really communicate with ghosts. She is just pretending...isn't she? Robyn hopes so.
Enjoy THERE’S SOMETHING IN MY ROOM, and catch DEADSTREAM when it hits Shudder later this year (but try not to read much about it!), and be sure to follow Joseph Winter and Vanessa Winter on Twitter.
