Star Trek: very Short Treks

It seems like Trekkies are eating well these days. Strange New Worlds and Lower Decks seem to be entertaining the fandom while getting rave reviews. Picard went out on a high note (or at least one of delightful fan service). And while there hasn’t been a new Star Trek movie in a while, that also means more time has passed since STAR TREK INTO THE DARKNESS and we are further away from it being able to hurt us any more.

Building on that recent fervor, Paramount has commissioned some (very brief) animated adventures that capture the absurd spirit of Sealab 2021 while using the Trek universe as the backdrop. Developed by Casper Kelly (maker of Too Many Cooks amongst many other Adult Swim ventures), Star Trek: very Short Treks uses the style of animation from 1973’s Star Trek: The Animated Series.

The series summary for very Short Treks is:

From the mind of Casper Kelly (Too Many Cooks, Star Trek: Short Treks), Star Trek: very Short Treks celebrates the bold, the silly, and the unusual across the animated universe of Star Trek.

Does the humor always work? Of course not! But there are some delightful moments of ingenuity and wit. Plus they are so short that it’s never that painful an exercise. There have been two entries released thus far.
