Trixie Mattel & Katya React to SCREAM, THE WITCHES, and more!
I know Shudder has put all their chips in with The Boulet Brothers but if I had my druthers, then the current drag queens associated with horror would be Trixie Mattel and Katya. Not that one need to pick sides—plenty of drag and horror to go around in 2021! The duo have that perfect mathematical equation of complimentary aspects and overlapping sensibilities which leads to comedy gold and engaging entertainment.
Whether it’s watching LEGALLY BLONDE or discussing Katya’s frankly worrisome love of the movie CONTACT, the pair have a wonderful sense of innate timing and banter that feels genuine and bottomless with each discovering new elements of the other but still knowing their on-screen partner well enough to bounce ideas and questions and prompts for outstanding chitter AND chatter.
In this installment, America’s favorite Living Doll and Living Dead Girl watch some offerings from Netflix including the first SCREAM, the first THE EVIL DEAD, the original THE WITCHES, GERALD’S GAME, and POLTERGEIST. I was going to type “the original” POLTERGEIST—but no one remembers that remake, right? Like even Sam Rockwell doesn’t recall that. “Ummm, I think I’d remember if I spent 81 days filming a movie in Toronto in 2013.”
That’s not a commentary on the remake’s quality. I’ve never seen it. But POLTERGEIST (2015) is just one of those films that has crept into the fog of forgotten memories until it is randomly mentioned. And then you go “Oh YEAH that does it exist! Anyways, back to doing literally anything else with my life…”
And literally anything else with your life should include watching this pleasing pair of perfect performers watch and talk about some great horror movies. Enjoy!
