UNEARTHED & UNTOLD: THE PATH TO PET SEMATARY (2017)

With a renewed interest in Stephen King, plus a growing well of nostalgic titles to explore, many Constant Readers have turned to looking at the past to explore their favorite author and his works. One such project is the documentary UNEARTHED & UNTOLD: THE PATH TO PET SEMATARY by directors John Campopiano and Justin White, which looks at the origins of King’s book as well as the making of the 1989 movie.

The doc is a pretty in depth look at what inspired the novel, what went into creating the film (complete with interviews with many of the people directly involved), as well as some of the local aspects as Mary Lambert’s picture was made in Maine, drawing on real life locations from King’s own life and inspirations. It can be a bit too specific and go off on a few odd tangents (some of the location manager stuff runs a bit long), but it’s very rewarding for those interested in the source material and to see how all of these elements came together to produce a chilling modern horror classic.
