Sammi Curr Lives Again With Cavity Colors’ TRICK OR TREAT Collection

Looking back at my formative years as a young horror nerd there are several titles, I passed by at the local video rental shop that never made it into my home viewing experience. Most times I don’t regret this decision, because I will watch them as an adult and be like, “Oh yeah…that’s why I never watched that movie.”

Other times, I finally catch up on a long out of print classic and realize that I truly missed out. One such case is the 1986 heavy metal horror classic TRICK OR TREAT.

Not sure if it was having Ozzy Osbourne and Gene Simmons of KISS on the cover of the VHS that turned me off—despite both only having brief cameos in the film (which I couldn’t have known), I was not a fan of those two as a child so that would keep me away.

Maybe it was just for the fact I stuck mainly to major franchises back then so this would have been off the bloodbeaten path.

Whatever the case may be, my loss. Luckily, as an adult I was able to rediscover this amazing piece of cinema.

I think what had piqued my interest is how much love it gets from the horror community. It’s amazing that even despite so much admiration amongst horror cliques, TRICK OR TREAT still hasn’t had a proper U.S. Blu-ray release.

The film was directed by Charles Martin Smith (the pipe-smoking nerd in THE UNTOUCHABLES) and written by Michael S. Murphey, Joel Soisson, and Rhet Topham (with uncredited writing work by Glenn Morgan (who also appears as ‘Roger’) and James Wong, the dudes behind FINAL DESTINATION). TRICK OR TREAT stars Marc Price, Tony Fields, Lisa Orgolini, Doug Savant (plus those previously mentioned overhyped rockstar cameos). It’s the teenage satanic panic horror story of a high school metalhead using his favorite dead rockstar to get revenge on the world that treats him like an outcast, but then things go awry (as they usually do).

Regardless of how obscure TRICK OR TREAT became, there are those out there still keeping its memory alive. Artists, cosplayers, and horror conventions all aim to keep TRICK OR TREAT—and more specifically, its antagonist Sammi Curr—alive and kicking. That’s why I’m so excited horror-centric clothing label Cavity Colors released their own TRICK OR TREAT collection.

There’s so much kick ass merch here that it’s hard to know what to talk about first.

Well, can’t go wrong with world renowned artist Devon Whitehead, best known for his contributions to Scream Factory and other Cavity Colors collections. His tribute to Sammi Curr is so slick and detail oriented that it is a must have. It’s titled “Rock & Roll Nightmare” and it’s available on a unisex t-shirt, fitted woman’s t-shirt, and a top notch pull over hoodie that reads “Sammi Curr Lives” in big red slash marks on the front.

Up next are shirts by artist Puis Calzada. His design is called “Death to False Metal,” and it’s a bit rougher around the edges but in the best possible way.

Very heavy metal. Very punk rock. Very cool.

This bit of Sammi Curr madness is featured on a blue lightning tie dye t-shirt, and an edgier long sleeve shirt with additional TRICK OR TREAT graphics on the sleeves.

Argh! Both are must haves!

Last, but not least, is the mind-blowing “Sammi Curr Lives” t-shirt by Dismay Design.

This features many of the most iconic images from the film on the front in a rad punk rock-style collage. The back has the same “Sammi Curr Lives” that’s carved on the front of the “Rock & Roll Nightmare” hoodie.

All the merch is great, but I think this may very well be my favorite piece.

Most merch companies focus their resources on more well-established horror properties, it’s refreshing to see Cavity Colors taking a chance with this lesser known title. This TRICK OR TREAT collection is bound to be a big hit with ‘80s horror fans and hopefully bring attention to a well-deserved cult classic.

That’s enough of me jibber-jabbering away. Now that you read about it, go buy the merch. Check out Cavity Colors on all major social media outlets—Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter. Or do yourself one better and go straight to their website and check out all the heavy metal TRICK OR TREAT Sammi Curr insanity that you can handle. As always remember to “Buy or Die” and tell ‘em that Neon Splatter sent you!
