Each week, Neon Splatter contributors offer up some viewing options found on streaming (U.S. unless otherwise noted). Movies, TV shows, specials, and more. New and old, from all sorts of genres and nations. Most importantly, we deem them worthy of your time.

KILEY FOX: DOUBLE LAYERED TOWN (2019)

What It Is: After the Great East Japan Earthquake and Tsunami in 2011, Komori Haruka and Seo Natsumi chose to live and film in Rikuzentakata. This work is a visual record of four people who applied for a workshop Komori and Seo devised, showing them visiting the town and getting to know its people and landscape. The opportunity to hear personal experiences of the disaster decreases with time, but this film provides a bridge to new encounters and communication, in addition to including a story written by Seo entitled "Double Layered Town."

Where It Is: Japanese Film Festival

Why You Should Watch It: “It shares the experience of a town being washed away in the tsunami then being rebuilt and how that effects a community and the importance of memories and story telling. It can be difficult to watch if you're sensitive to tragedy, but worth the emotional investment.”

Alexis M. Collazo: Van Helsing (2016 - 2021)

What It Is: Vanessa Helsing, distant relative of famous vampire hunter Abraham Van Helsing, is resurrected only to find that vampires have taken over the world.

Where It Is: Netflix

Why You Should Watch It: “I'm pretty much a sucker for anything even closely related to Dracula. Plus it's about time we had vampire apocalypse, zombies are so 2010. While it starts with a basic chosen one premise, the show takes some wild turns.”

Jeremy Lowe: PIGGY (2022)

What It Is: An overweight teen is bullied by a clique of cool girls poolside while holidaying in her village. The long walk home will change the rest of her life.

Where It Is: Hulu

Why You Should Watch It: “This Spanish film made quite a buzz last year on the festival circuit, and with good reason. All I knew about this film from the cover art, and assumed it was a cannibal movie. I was pleasantly surprised when it was more of a slasher film with a revenge story arc. Topical story dealing with body positivity and bullying really elevates this film. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!”

Rob Dean:  SLAPSTICK OF ANOTHER KIND (1982)

What It Is: A rich, beautiful couple give birth to deformed alien twins who, when their heads are together, are the smartest kids on the planet.

Where It Is: Tubi

Why You Should Watch It: “I previously wrote pretty extensively about this title in the past. But it’s been very hard to find to watch. Is it a good movie? No, absolutely not. Is it a bad movie? Undoubtedly so. But more importantly, it is utterly unique and you will be transfixed by the bizarre madness that unfolds on the screen. Catch this before it disappears again!”
