Deadline reports that López will direct THE GIRL WITH A THOUSAND NAMES (from a script that she wrote) for HBO Max. But for real - if you haven’t seen TIGERS ARE NOT AFRAID, seek it out. It’s on Shudder and other places and it is an incredible film.
Other good news for excellent films/filmmakers: IFC Midnight and Shudder have acquired distribution rights for the excellent SHE WILL from debut filmmaker Charlotte Colbert. It’s a great movie that I absolutely loved when I saw it at Fantastic Fest last year.
The always incredible and amazingly influential Vern did a watch through Sam Raimi’s filmography and wrote about each film. You can find a round-up of each post via this Twitter thread.
Murderville, Netflix’s new series based on the UK Murder In Successville, finds celebrity guests improvising their way through various mysteries led by Will Arnett’s bumbling Detective Terry Seattle. It’s a mixed bag but this moment where Conan O’Brien has to tell a child about a woman dying is pretty terrific:

Thanks to Mike Vanderbilt, unofficial Ambassador of All Things Chicago as well as Shadow Mayor of Austin, Jeppson’s Malört has become a staple of Fantastic Fest. It is a horrific liquor that tastes like prohibition and a wizard’s curse. Which leads to this hilarious video from Ordinary Sausage where a sausage is attempted to be made out of it:
